Sports Commentaries...by KWSN Staff
Does the NCAA really care about grades?
The NCAA has released its annual report on academic progress.
Nearly 150 college teams face possible scholarship losses next season and 26 others are in danger of being banned from postseason play if they don't improve next year.
What's shocking, more than 700 college teams fell short of the mandated cut score.
Why is the NCAA mandated test scores?
Don't they have enough problems finding cheating in college athletics?
I think the NCAA mandated test scores promotes cheating.
If a college/university doesn't maintain a certain level of test scores, they lose scholarships...which means they may lose talented athletes...which means they don't make the NCAA playoffs...which means they dont' get a pile of playoff money.
Just ask the University of Minnesota.  I think they learned that lesson under former men's basketball coach Clem Haskins.  They had their Final 4 appearance season in 1997 wiped off the books...because someone else was doing the students' work.
You don't think schools will 'work the system' in order to get a big check from the NCAA?
